Online Stopwatch with Laps

A free online stopwatch with lap and split times, fastest and slowest laps marked, keyboard shortcuts and CSV export. It keeps counting accurately in a background tab and survives a page reload.

Keyboard: Space start or stop, L lap, R reset

Press Lap while the stopwatch runs to record splits.

How to use the stopwatch

Press Start (or Space). While it runs, press Lap (or L) each time a round, speaker, slide or repetition finishes. The table lists every lap with its own time and the running total, colours the fastest lap and the slowest lap, and shows how each one compares with your average. Press Stop to pause and Resume to continue the same run.

Use the laps afterwards

Copy the laps as CSV to paste into a spreadsheet, or download them as a file. The CSV has a lap number, lap time, total time, and the same two values in milliseconds for calculation.

When a stopwatch is the wrong tool

A stopwatch counts up from zero, which suits timing something that has no fixed length. If you know how long a segment should take and want speakers to see it counting down, use a countdown timer instead; TimedFlow can show one on a second screen and control it from a phone.

Frequently asked questions

Is the stopwatch accurate if I switch to another tab?

Yes. The stopwatch does not count ticks. It stores when you pressed start and works out the elapsed time from the clock each time it draws, so a browser that slows down background tabs cannot make it lose time. The numbers on screen may refresh less often while the tab is hidden, and catch up as soon as you return.

What is the difference between a lap time and a split time?

A lap time is how long each lap took on its own. A split time (the "Total" column) is the running time from the start to the moment you pressed Lap. The table shows both, plus how far each lap is from your average.

Will it keep running if I reload or close the page?

Yes. The start time and laps are saved in this browser, so a reload picks up the same run. Closing the tab does not stop the clock either: when you come back, the elapsed time includes the time you were away. Press Reset to clear it. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which keyboard shortcuts are available?

Space starts or stops, L records a lap, and R resets. The shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a field or have a button focused, so they never fight with the page.

How precise is it?

It shows hundredths of a second and measures with the browser's monotonic clock, which is precise to well under a millisecond. In practice your own reaction time and the screen refresh rate (usually 60 times a second) are the limits, not the stopwatch.

Take the plan into the live room
